Lahore Ki Eik Dastaan
By presenting the process and the display of public art installation, Lahore ki Eik Dastaan, in one of the city’s historic buildings— Dyal Singh Mansions, on Mall Road, Lahore in 2022, I argue that the layers in a complex narrative like dastaan, the evolution of a city is fraught with many twists and turns which shape the collective experiences and memories of the people of the city. To excavate these meandering twists and turns of history in order to understand how ‘nai reesan shehr Lahore diyan’ came to define this legendary city, art in public spaces provides an avenue for citizens to reconnect with their heritage as it not only evokes shared memories of a bygone era but also compels individuals to question how their cultural identity has evolved.
